Agriculture marketplace · India

Farmers and buyers, connected directly.

AAIRA is a marketplace where a farmer can sell a harvest, a buyer can find it, and both can reach market shops, today's rates, transport and farming knowledge — on a phone, in their own language.

Where we are: pre-launch. The platform is built and in testing; it is not yet open to the public.

Why AAIRA

The problem, and our approach

What goes wrong today

  • A farmer usually sells through several middlemen and rarely meets the person who finally buys the crop.
  • A buyer who wants produce directly has no simple way to find sellers nearby, or to know today's fair rate.
  • Finding a market shop, a truck or sound farming advice still depends on who you happen to know.

What AAIRA does about it

  • Direct connection. Farmers and buyers find each other and talk to each other.
  • An introducer, not a middleman. AAIRA holds no money in a deal between a farmer and a buyer; price and payment are agreed between them.
  • Made for a phone and for local languages. Kannada, English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
Features

What you can do on AAIRA

An honest note on status. Everything below is built. Because AAIRA has not opened to the public yet, each item is marked In testing or Planned rather than Available.

Sell your harvest

In testing

List what you have grown with photos, quantity and price. Buyers browse listings and contact you directly.

For farmers and buyers

Mandi

In testing

A directory of shops inside physical markets — fruit, flowers, vegetables, provisions — with what they have today. Search, compare, contact the shop and book.

For households, event buyers and market sellers

Machinery & Livestock

In testing

A notice board for farm machinery, livestock, labour and equipment on rent — offered or wanted.

For farmers

AAIRA Store

In testing

A small catalogue of products sold by AAIRA itself, with order tracking and customer reviews.

For everyone

Community

In testing

A discussion feed where farmers post questions, photos and what worked on their land, and others reply.

For farmers

Market rates

In testing

Today's rate for a crop at a market, with the price range and when it was posted.

For farmers and buyers

Buyer requirements

In testing

A buyer posts what they need. Farmers nearby who grow it are told, and can apply with the quantity they can supply.

For buyers and farmers

Transport

In testing

A directory of truck and tempo owners, and a board of trucks returning empty along a route. Contact the owner directly; AAIRA takes no payment.

For buyers and transport owners

Learn

In testing

Short guides on natural farming — soil, intercropping, water — written for reading on a phone.

For farmers

Krishi AI

Planned

A farming assistant that answers only from books approved by AAIRA, and says so when the books do not cover a question. The assistant is built; its library is still being prepared.

For farmers

Your language, your phone

In testing

The same service on the web and in a mobile app, in Kannada, English, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.

For everyone

Also planned

  • Courier delivery for Store orders, with tracking.
  • A WhatsApp assistant for common questions.
  • Asking Krishi AI by voice, and hearing the answer.
How it works

Three steps, for either side

If you are a farmer

  1. List what you have: crop, quantity, price and a photo.
  2. Buyers looking for it nearby are told.
  3. They contact you directly, and you agree the deal between yourselves.

If you are a buyer

  1. Search for what you need, or post your requirement.
  2. Compare sellers and today's market rate.
  3. Contact the seller, then collect it or find a truck in the transport directory.
Roadmap

Where we are, and what is next

Done

  • The platform is built and tested end to end: listings, Mandi, Store, community, rates, requirements and matching, transport, Learn.
  • Web and mobile app working from the same service.
  • Five languages across the screens.

Next

  • We will open the web application to a first group of farmers and buyers in Tumakuru district.
  • We will publish the mobile app.
  • We will move the service onto cloud infrastructure with backups and monitoring.
  • We will add the first approved farming books to Krishi AI.

Later

  • We plan to add courier delivery for Store orders.
  • We plan a WhatsApp assistant and voice in Kannada.
  • We plan to show government market rates beside our own.
  • We plan to extend to more districts.
Technology

How AAIRA is built and run

AAIRA is a working software platform, not a prototype.

What exists

  • A web application and a mobile app that share one service.
  • A set of small back-end services behind a single gateway: sign-in, profiles and notifications, marketplace and orders, and the community feed.
  • A relational database for records and a document store for community posts.
  • Photographs kept in private cloud object storage (Amazon S3) and shown through short-lived links.

How cloud services are used

  • Compute to run the services and the gateway.
  • A managed database with automatic backups.
  • Object storage for listing, shop and profile photographs.
  • A content network to deliver the web application quickly on mobile data.
  • Messaging for sign-in codes and alerts.
  • Monitoring and logs so problems are seen before users report them.

What cloud credits would pay for

Running the service for the first group of farmers and buyers; a separate environment for testing changes safely; database backups; and, later, the grounded farming assistant. For a company at our stage, hosting is a major fixed cost, so support here goes directly into getting the service in front of farmers.

Team

Who is behind AAIRA

Chandan Palanethra, founder of AAIRA

Chandan Palanethra

Founder

Chandan is an organic farmer from Tumakuru district in Karnataka. He started AAIRA after seeing, as a grower, how little of the final price reaches the farm and how hard it is for a farmer and a buyer to find each other directly.
